Around 150 years ago, some particularly shrewd watchmakers came up with a rather unusual way of showing the hours. They divided the day up into 24 hours, as had been usual since the 14th century, but into the twelve hours of the day, with a symbol depicting the sun, and the twelve hours of the night, each with a lunar symbol. The watchmakers at Maurice Lacroix have taken up this idea and integrated it into the Masterpiece Jour et Nuit wristwatch, as a means of paying a stylish tribute to their forerunners based on the 36.5mm, specially modified Unitas 6498 calibre pocket watch movement. Lovingly crafted with the utmost precision, it harmonizes perfectly with the fascinating details on the dial and hands.
